So... I guess this is fairly breaking news, as I didn't know about it until today when I just happened to check the BnL website.

You might want to go see it for yourself: BNL WEBSITE

After 20 years together, Steven Page is leaving Barenaked Ladies "by mutual agreement" to pursue a solo career and theatrical performance. The rest of the band is staying together and will start recording a new album in April.

(the rest is speculative and not official news)
I'm really shocked by the news but I don't think this is the end, not by a long shot. As any recent fan will be able to tell you, more and more songs have been Ed Robertson-sung songs lately, and it seems Steven has been phasing himself out of the band for the last two albums (BnL Are Me & BnL Are Men, Snacktime)
I'm excited to see what Steve will get up to on his own and hope to hear his fantastic voice blasting through on some great solo albums, and I know that he and BnL will never be far apart. Surely he will be a guest singer in the future.
I can't help but think that this has something to do with the band's image and Steven's arrest in July 2008, but there must be more to it than just a little smear on their good name (which even I don't think is much of a smear.)

In other news, Steve looks great, check him out in the concert photos and see how much higher his high kick has gotten since he got more into shape!

And now I'm rambling.
Anyway, comment here and let's start a support group. And keep optimistic! This can and will be awesome. And NEW ALBUM getting made in April, TOUR IN FALL. How exciting will that be?!

yours in fan-ness,
Steffox

EDIT: this is a good article for explaining wthell happened: Ed will lead on
Box Set 2009?
